Mattie is a published author of novels and short stories, as well as some poetry and nonfiction. She is also a singer/songwriter/guitarist.
What I bring
Mattie has written pop and folk songs but also recently created a musical based on the life of author Charles Dickens, whose fiction is among her favorites. She will sing some of the songs from her yet-unproduced musical, “The Loves of Charles Dickens” and also plans to give a talk about some of the villains that appear in Dickens’s novels.
Who are you
Marilyn “Mattie” Brahen has published fiction in 13 magazines and anthologies in the U.S. and U.K. to date. Her 2003 first fantasy novel, CLAIMING HER, and its 2009 sequel, REFORMING HELL, received good reviews. A third novel, BABY BOY BLUE, a police procedural mystery set in Philadelphia, was published in 2011 and resold to Linford Mystery Library (large print edition) in Great Britain in 2014. Her short story collection, SEASTRUCK AND OTHER FANTASIES, was also published in Autumn, 2019. She is currently working on various creative projects. Mattie is also a singer/songwriter/guitarist and artist and lives with her husband, author/editor Darrell Schweitzer, and their cat Lillyput in Northeast Philadelphia.
